There is a wonderful comfort that can be found in a relaxing cup of tea or coffee and a sweet treat like a biscuit of cake. Whatever your taste preferences may be, whether you have your hot drinks with milk (or non-dairy milk alternative), black, with sugar, with sweetener or without, there is a reassuring warmth to this ritual. Whether you favour a cheeky chocolate muffin, you prefer dunking a garibaldi or hobnob, a sweet treat can almost universally offer I quiet moment joy.

Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest charities in the UK, providing the kind of comfort that goes well-beyond what a simple cup of coffee and a cake can muster to those who need it most. Every year however, the unending kindness of Macmillan and the traditional go-to comfort of hot drinks and decadent cake join forces to help raise money for Macmillan’s tireless and vital work.

Macmillan’s famous annual coffee morning, an event celebrated all across the UK, is one of RSVP’s favourite charity events, and every year our fabulous staff put their heart and soul into creating a plethora of culinary delights to share and help raise further funds so that Macmillan can continue with their work. This year of course was no exception and mouths were watering all over the office, eager to grab some delicious charitable goodness as soon as the plates were laid out.

Founded in 1911 as the Society for the Prevention and Relief of Cancer by Douglas Macmillan, Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest charities operating in the UK. Macmillan provides specialist health care, information and financial support to people affected by cancer. Macmillan helps with not just the medical impact of cancer, but also the social, emotional and practical impact that cancer can have as well.

Starting way back in 1990, the first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning was a small affair, with a simple idea. Guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their drinks to Macmillan in the process. The first event worked a teat, and so the next year, in 1991, Macmillan decided to take the event nationwide! Since then, the Macmillan Coffee Morning has been held every year and become a well-established event for fundraisers all over the country. Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning has raised over £200 million for Macmillan since its inception and continues be a not-to-miss event for countless people each year within the UK. In the years since the very first Macmillan coffee morning, the event has evolved from a simple meeting over a hot beverage, to so much more. Most hosts and participators of the event will dust off their aprons and create wonderful baked goods and pastries, both sweet and savoury, one of RSVP’s favourite pastimes! Many hosts also hold competitions and raffles for their guests to help raise even more money for the charity.

Thank you to everyone who donated and everyone who devoted their time to creating some wonderful culinary creations for the cause. Thanks also to the wonderful team behind Macmillan Cancer support and all the incredible work that you do.
