Spooky goings on have been taking over the RSVP offices lately as the Halloween spirits took control! Every year here at RSVP we love to go all out for Halloween, and with a contact centre full of actors, the clever characters and outrageous outfits that are seen floating around the building for our annual Halloween costume competition are always sure to take your breath away.

The celebration of Halloween originates some 2000 years ago with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes in the hope of warding off ghosts. Ancient Celts believed that Samhain, marking the end of summer harvest, and the start of the cold, dark winter, was when the boundaries between the worlds of the living and the dead were at their weakest and ghosts returned to earth. Since then, however, the festival has changed quite dramatically, and now it is seen as a celebration of all things spooky. People will spend Halloween at parties, carving pumpkins, Trick-or-Treating and watching scary movies. Nevertheless, the tradition of dressing up has endured, and fingers crossed, those costumes continue to keep the ghouls away!

This year’s RSVP Halloween Costume Competition saw some fabulous creations, both spooky and sweet, making the judging particularly difficult.

Halloween1

Here is Kristy in her incredible Louise Belcher costume from Bob’s Burgers.

There were certainly some terrifying figures in the office this year, so ghouls beware!

Halloween2

Corinna gives her most terrifying Wednesday Addams, while Dean prowled in the most horrifying onesie get-up and mask we’ve seen!

This year also gave us a look at some beautiful face paints, as our staff let their artistic talents fly!

Halloween3

Lauren from the Social Media team as a cracked Dorothy Gale terrified for her life as Keith our Facilities Manager, in his best drag, comes after her as the Wicked Witch of the West. The Mad Hatter (Christina) can only look on in fear!

We didn’t leave anyone out of the fun though, so while not everyone was able to don a costume, those who couldn’t were given some great Halloween-themed photo booth masks to keep their spooky spirits alive!

 Halloween4

Pumpkin Vision with Meg!

There were some great cinematically inspired looks seen throughout the building this year.

 Halloween5

Here’s Lauren again as Dorothy Gale from The Wizard of Oz and myself as Peter Parker from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Halloween6

Here is Lauren again with Jamie’s Ron Burgundy from Anchorman.

All in all a great day was had, and excitements rose as the competition winners were announced.

Coming in a very respectable third place were Mike and Nick with a joint win for their fantastic Star Wars costumes!

Halloween7

Mike as a cheeky Han Solo and Nick, a very cosy Jedi Knight in his dressing gown!

Then, in a very close second place, we saw Jonny kitted out in a beautiful Anne Rice-esque vampiric dream.

Halloween8

Jonny looking as pleased as Dracula in a blood bank with his prizes!

Finally, for the sheer fact that he managed to universally terrify every single member of staff that encountered him, we had to award first place to Gus as the spine-chillingly horrible Slenderman.

 Halloween9

Adorned with his prizes, Slenderman took the win, and no one argues with Slenderman!

What a fantastic Halloween we had! We can’t wait to see what amazing creations people will come dressed as for next year!

 Halloween10

What a gorgeously eccentric and well-dressed team!
