RSVP 5 a side update.
With 3 successive wins under their belts hopes were high as RSVP continued their five a side campaign on Monday night, needing at least a point from the game to keep them top of the league. Injuries have plagued RSVP this season, key players James Unwin and Michael Ryan still were unable to play this week so Steven ‘The Engine’ Thorn was recruited into the team as was Chris Riddlestone. Thorn joined the starting line-up along with Lindsey, Mcleod, Parris and Laffan with Riddlestone, Fisher and Kirk making up the remainder of the squad as subs.
This week’s opponents were comprised of 5 fresh faced young lads who looked up for the challenge and were quick to silence any doubters by scoring two goals in quick succession, however RSVP dug deep and got the equalisers in next to no time courtesy of Laffan. It was a heated game with neither team shy to put in a hefty challenge; however the Referee was keen to keep things under control, harshly sin binning “Goal Machine” Laffan mid-way through the second half. In this tight game RSVP seemed to be constantly clawing away at a 2 goal deficit, conceding each time they scored and with Laffan off the pitch they had to dig deep to stay in the game. When back on the pitch Laffan was quick to make his presence known scoring within a minute of coming back on, with the teams level and only a few minutes left on the clock tensions were running high, all RSVP needed was one more goal to put them ahead and it was Steven Thorn who would be the hero of the night and score it. However, with a minute or so of play left, RSVP had to stay strong defensively to keep the young lads at bay, Mcleod putting in some crunching tackles in his defensive partnership with Parris, unfortunately one goal slipped through putting teams on level terms to end the game. My personal man of the match was Dean Lindsey who made some incredible saves that others would think not humanly possible.
RSVP got the point they needed to stay top of the league with a big match next week against RCP Associates, it’s a must win game if they want to keep the title race within their own hands.
